The
Dangers of Prescription Drugs
The
Federal government defines a drug as any substance (other
than food ) intended for use in the diagnosis, cure,
relief, treatment, or prevention of disease, or intended
to affect the structure or function of the body. Drugs
have drastically changed life in modern times. Many
diseases and conditions that were once debilitating
and deadly are now either unheard of or easily controlled
through drug therapy. However, drugs have been around
as long as man, albeit in different forms than today.
Before the 20th century, most drug remedies were fashioned
from naturally occurring plants and animals. Today,
while natural sources are still useful, most of our
drugs have synthetic origins.
